About Larissa

I bring over 22 years of experience across direct practice, program management, program implementation, and academia to supervision. I graduated from the University of Queensland with Honours in Psychology in 2001 and the Master of Social Work (Qualifying) from QUT in 2019.

I began my career as a research assistant on a project investigating the intersection of child protection and mental health. I also worked as a counsellor for children and young people, a youth worker, a therapeutic case manager, and a program coordinator. My experience spans working in the areas of statutory Child Protection, Education, Corrections, alcohol and drugs (AOD), domestic family and sexual violence, mental health, community development, and homelessness. I have worked in both NGOs and government agencies.

Currently, I work as a social work supervisor for students on placement and am experienced in providing group and individual supervision to students. I also work in youth engagement to ensure that young people’s voices inform services. These roles reflect my passion for supervision while maintaining my connection to local services that keep my knowledge of practice current.

I am a current member of the AASW.

Approach to Social Work Supervision

I take a critical and reflective approach to supervision. I provide a confidential and safe space for supervision.

By reflecting on ourselves and our practice, we can gain a deeper understanding of where the challenges lie and of our unique strengths. In my own social work journey, I have found supervision to be a key source of my learning and development.

As a professional social work supervisor, I engage in continual professional development to ensure that my knowledge of supervision practices and the social services sector remains current. I completed the AASW Introduction to Best Practice in Supervision in July 2025.

I have provided supervision in the areas of child protection, mental health, Alcohol and Drug issues, Corrections, disability support, women’s health, refugee and asylum seeker support services, housing and homelessness, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health services, and community based social work. I am experienced in providing both individual and group supervision.
